Flushing the soil does a great job of removing the “bad actors,” but it can remove desired nutrients as well, specifically base cations. It’s important to come in after a flush with a replenishment program. Sodium (Na) often comes from irrigated sources. As such, it’s important to get open CEC sites filled with desirable base cations before the risk of sodium, from watering, could reclaim those open cation exchange sites.
